BMW E39 540i vs. Mercedes W124 400e

I've owned a fairly high mileage 1993 Mercedes 400E for about a year now.Picked it up for $1200 and added 17" W210 sport wheels and tires for another $500.I've really enjoyed the Benz. Its needed some stuff like a battery,O2 sensor,Crankshaft position sensor, and a mirror control switch. For the price its been quite satisfying and has provided 10,000 miles of trouble free driving. The W124 series Mercedes are built to last and the design has aged wellAll the controls have a nice hefty feel to them. The doors shut with a satisfying "thunk".The V8 with its tall gearing while not so quick off the line, cruises effortlessly at 100+ mph and still manages between 18-23mpg.The gated 4 speed auto has a nice quality feel when throwing it into "D" or shifting maually. When I lost a key, I got a new one from the local dealership in 24 hours for only $18.. All in all a great car.Still, after owning several BMW 635CSi's over the years I found myself yearning for a clutch again. So I set my sights on buying a 540i 6-speed
