• Oct. 10, 2007 - Powdercoating dreams

It's been fairly quick summer and not much driving due to many things. Had an opportunity to take a one longer trip and see where the governor is so I consider this good enough. Just before the insurance cut-off bumped into big problem. Looks like gearbox is leaking major. Source being either turbine or shaft seal (or something on te engine side of bell housing.

Took it off the isurance and while waiting my garage to get cleaned up, had it powdercoated this morning:

Yep, call that Alpine White II

• Jun. 4, 2007 - Kajaani Car Show 2007

I was there, with BMW Club Finland (Kainuu chapter). Had total of 6 cars on our section, out of 2 were E31's !

Pretty nice for such northern location...

Check here for few more pics (just keep on clicking Next):

What else: ran out of gas (kinda), did wax-on-wax-off -procedure and been washing it. Nothing major really.

Call to insurance company 8am and out the door. Officially on the road since this morning !!!

Tyres feel like blocks, need to get some mileage and do balancing later.

Traction control kicked in few times, temperature was -3C...

• Mar. 20, 2007 - Summer is here...NOT, (but we'll make it)

so it's about time to get ready. We got few sunny days and I was able to clear most of my front yardage from snow and make it ice -free. Took her out and installed final pieces to complete Finlandisation.

Removed BC-plates and holders from rear, screwed in EU/FIN plates. Had to leave migthy RoadFly sticker underneath for now as it was too cold to scratch it out without damaging the plastic holder underneath.

Tom sent my CSi -compatible plate holder pieces fairly quickly ;) and this is how she looks like today:

Global warming, please...

• Nov. 8, 2006 - Over the pond, into the cold and finally back home !

Finally, after multiple estimated arrivals and cancellations, I got the container to Kajaani, Finland.

After some five minutes of paperwork at local customs and cutting thru the customs seal, I was able to see the car was ok.
Even though it was travelling totally untied inside the container !!!

Removed the support 2by4's and pushed it out.

Batteries were totally frozen and despite multiple efforts jumpstarting it, we had no luck.
We had total of three sources connected to car at once and still it wouldn't even crank. Frozen batteries. Dead Done and Doomed.

Had to leave the car to terminal while we unloaded rest of my stuff. Afternoon I went and bought two new Exide batteries to replace the old ones.
She fired up with some sputter and smoke. Apparently EML and ECU's are resetted and need DK procedure later.

Drove nearest gas station and filled it up with premium, welcome to Finland !

Driving in the snow with summer spec tires was kinda tricky, but we got home safely. Now I got ten days to start the official registration and inspection process. Nothing to worry though 'cause I'm not planning to drive it until snow melts away, within next six months or so...

...meanwhile, we'll just hibernate.
