After a long struggle with the original Weber 32/36 inherited from Happy Face #1, I finally made the decision to replace it with a new Weber 38 DGES. The Weber 32/36 is an effective carb for most 2002 applications but the one on Happy Face was needing a rebuild. I decided I’d take the opportunity to get the additional power out of the non-progressive, double-barrel 38DGES.
The original Weber 32/36 and after removal
The original peanut intake on the manifold had to be ground out for the larger 38DGES. Here's the manifold after removal.
The reinstalled intake manifold after grinding out to make room for the larger 38DGES. The new carb after installation.
A new Ramflo-style air cleaner sits directly on top of the new Weber. Good for better performance plus an attractive addition to the engine bay.
Five or so years ago I bought an old BMW 2002. I have spent the past few years bringing this old car back to life. It is way past any kind of a 'budget' but I won't give until she is a reliable, fun car to drive. It turns out I'm having a lot of fun in the process!
