Apr. 13, 2007 - New summer tires............
Time to get those winter puppy's off the car and enjoy the alloy look again plus lees noisy roadnoise from the tires ( I hope).
After
much agonizing and research on whether or not to go and spring for
those elusive 17" new rims and tire package or just stick to those
limited choice for tire 15 OEM rims, first my choices seemd rather
limited in that it would cost me around $800 CDN for just some decent
Michelins wheras I could get those 17" rims and new KUMHO's all for
1300, seemed not to bad a deal.
However after some digging found a
local tire source here that caries the HANKOOK Ventus HR II 405 in my
size fro only $117 ea. incl. installation & balancing.
That's my story for today and I'm sticking to it.......

Well those Hankooks turned out to more elusive than I figured as when i got to the tire place to have them installed they were out of stock (by now I don't believe they ever had them), as all he was trying to do was sell me those other type of Hankooks that i never heard of before.
So I came "this" close to actually ordering those rim and Kumho packages but woo and behold I found a local source that actually had my first choice of FALKEN tires in my 15" size.
They are supposed to arrive today, now having said that IF they actually arrive I think by next time I need tires for this car I will have to bite the bullet and go for those > 15" wheel after all as I don't think 2 years from now I will be able to get any decent set of tires for a 15" rim for me beloved E39..........
So if all goes according to plan this time, by this time next week i will be driving on some ZIEX ZE-512's for only $500. (cdn incl taxes grrrrr) installed and balanced.
Just hope I like them........ |

Went to get my new tires mounted on the stock E39 wheels and the local shop has a standard machine and apparently they cannot get the old tires off so they have to take it to s "special"place for mounting the new tires.
Never heard of that beforfe so will find out tomorrow if thye have scratched my rims.............. |

Now have over 5000 kms n the new summer tires, needed a new alignment at 3000 as they were wearing on the inside and started pulling to the right. Now she tracks straight again and the jury is still out on the uneven wear.
OTT these tires are great for the money,hug the road and are terrific in rain as well, quiet sofar...... |

Well, the Falkens have performed to my satisfaction except for becoming rather noisy, now have over 15Kkms on them and they are noisy.
OTT I am still happy with them. After all I can get two of these for the price of one Michelin then again maybe the quieter ride is worth it??
